  1. It is a pity I have not found out about this group till now – would have been an experience but then I am reading the Pope’s Encyclical instead for advent. I am at least a week post away from you so would like to know what your next book will be for the group – look forward to joining in!!

    Thanks
    Keith

  2. Never before have I experienced such a deep connection between the season of Thanksgiving and the season of Advent! With this study of Life of the Beloved, I hope to deepen this connection. Thank you for offering such possibilities for growth to all of us sharing in Nouwen’s wonderful book! Ellen

  3. I don’t even have my book yet and it is 11/30. In addition, I’ve never been exposed to the Advent concept of preparation for the celebration of Christmas. This will be a pilgrimage for me.

  4. Hi,
Sorry to be late, catching up now.
I am full time pastor of an evangelical church, and have found Henri Nouwen to be helpful and transformative. Looking forward to getting on board now.

  5. I would love to be part of this, but have never done anything like this before so not quite sure how it works? But look forward to it.

    1. Hi Janet,

Please go to the blog’s “Home” page to see a new post, “Nov 20th to Nov 23rd: Introductions.”

To find this new post scroll to the top of this page and click on the word “Home” – which you will find in the bottom left hand corner of the image of the forest floor.” Once on the home page you’ll see the bold title of the new post. Click on the title, and you’ll “enter” the post. You’ll then be able to read some instructions as well as see the comments that others have posted.

Just send another comment if this doesn’t make sense.

  6. I just read my devotional and saw that you have Book discussion.I love Life of the Beloved and so excited to join and to hear everyones thoughts:)

  7. I have read the life of the beloved twice, but I am looking forward to reading it again. Henri Nouwen’s books, I read them over and over again. I look forward to partcipating in the discussion.

  8. Welcome to those of you that are planning to join in the Advent book discussion of Henri Nouwen’s Life of the Beloved–especially those that are joining for the first time.

I have participated in the Henri Nouwen Society book discussions during Advent and Lent since at least 2010 and I can assure you that each time I have been enriched by sharing my journey through those seasons with the words of Henri Nouwen and the spirit-filled insights of my fellow pilgrims in this warm and caring on-line community.

I’m looking forward to November 20th and to starting our Advent journey together.

  9. The seasons of preparation, Advent & Lent, are such a blessing to me; Lent usually being better because of the cultural distractions of Advent. Like others, this will be a new approach for me but I am looking forward to it. My hope is that by ‘jump starting’ the season 10 days ahead of the First Sunday of Advent, this time will be the controlling influence during the season. Thank you!

  10. I’m looking forward to this discussion. I read Life of the Beloved several times, but not in the last 5 years. I’m happy to be revisiting it.

  11. Thanks for the opportunity to share thoughts and reflections on a book by one of my favorite spiritual writers.

  12. I hope to participate – this is new for me and not sure how it all works, but would love to reflect on the wisdom and truth offered in this book together with others this Advent.

  13. Just ordered my book. I’m looking forward to participating in this time of reflection with Henri and the group as we enter Advent, once again, preparing for our Christmas celebration!

  14. I am excited to meditate on this book. God guided me this book at a moment when I was feeling unworthy, someone read a quote from it that spoke to me at that moment.
Looking forward to see what the Lord has in store for me.
    Blessings
    Freda

  15. I’m really looking forward to this opportunity of marking Advent sharing this wonderful book.
    Thank you.

    Best,

  16. I’m a little late to the party, but I’ll try and catch up. Today (11/27/13) is the first time I saw the invitation to the book discussion.

How does this work? Do I receive emails about the book, or is there a webpage I’m supposed to access, or what?

I love Nouwen’s gentle spirit. I’m looking forward to this discussion.

    1. Hi Tim,

You are not late at all! We don’t start until November 20th. Just come back to the blog on November 20th. Our moderator, Brynn Lawrence will have posted a welcome message by then and an invitation to everyone to introduce themselves if they wish. Brynn will post a question each week on a particular chapter of Life of the Beloved. You can read the chapter, reflect on it, answer Brynn’s question on the blog, read and respond to other comments on the blog . . . whatever you feel called to do.

      Blessings,
      Maureen
