Walk with us this Lent as we reflect on Henri Nouwen’s HEART SPEAKS TO HEART and MAKING ALL THINGS NEW

We begin our Lenten journey together on March 5th and we are very pleased to announce that Brynn Lawrence will return as our facilitator! For those of you who don’t know Brynn, here is a brief bio:

BRYNN LAWRENCE is a life coach and experienced group facilitator. Throughout the Lenten book discussion she will work to create a safe and welcoming space that provides the opportunity for participants to reflect on the readings, and to share thoughts and encouragement with others. Brynn has come to know and trust Henri’s written word through her part-time position as project coordinator for the Nouwen Archive Letter Project. Brynn is also a Strategic Intervention Life Coach, and the founder of Abundant Life Coaching International. If you have any questions for Brynn, please contact her directly at nouwen.letters@utoronto.ca or through her website.

How do you participate in this reflection? Simply return to this blog on March 5th to read Brynn’s first post; there is no need to register. Everyone is welcome at any time during our six weekBookcover_MATN2014105x156 journey, to participate in any way that is nurturing for them. If you want to read along with us but not post your thoughts, that is just fine. You may prefer to keep a journal of your own during this time. For those who enjoy posting their thoughts and responding to others in the group, we look forward to hearing from you. Regardless of how you participate in this Lenten reflection, please know that you are a part of a compassionate and thoughtful community. The level of sharing and caring that took place within our Advent reflection community was beautiful and so life-giving and we hope you are looking forward to the Lenten reflection as much as we are!

Bookcover_HSH_110x151If you need to purchase a copy of Heart Speaks to Heart or Making All Things New, you can visit our bookstore. Please note that purchases from this bookstore are in US dollars and are shipped from the US. These titles are also available in Kindle editions and you can find Henri’s books at local bookstores and libraries.

You will find a link to the reading schedule for our Lenten reflection on the top navigation bar.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

  1. Hello Everyone,

Many thanks for all your enthusiasm and presence. I have created a new post, and it would be best if you always add your comments to the newest post – so that everyone sees them.

So, always check in to the home page http://wp.henrinouwen.org/

New posts are found at the top of the page, and are identified by the bold title.

I’ll be removing the option for comments on this page, so I hope you’ll come on over!

  2. Lent offers new beginnings in my faith journey. My experience with Nouwen has been with daily meditations and several of his books which always seem to be “on the mark” in my faith journey. As a former teacher, taking this “leap of faith” to join this Lenten book series, gives an added opportunity to be joined with a common faith link. Thank you, Brynn, for the wise choice of giving this up to date media opportunity to move forward in ones own personal faith journey within our home setting. Sharing together should offer much …..I personally will look forward to the challenges/opportunities to follow up with others during these upcoming weeks. Blessings to all who join together in this unique Lenten opportunity and who accept and acknowledge that “Godspark” within.

  3. This is my first time that I am participating in an on line book discussion but I have been reading Henri Nouwen’s books for at least 10 years. I think I have read all of them. I am looking forward to this new way of sharing and growing through Henri Nouwen. I am from New Hampshire.

  4. I am so pleased to have this opportunity to share the Lenten journey. I am currently teaching in northern Iraq and opportunities for Christian worship are limited. At least English language opportunities. I have read many Nouwen books but not these two.

  5. I am looking forward to this journey. I have read “Heart Speaks to Heart” several times in the past. I find it comes alive for me if I read it by moving my lips and speaking in a soft whisper. It may sound strange to do this, but the writing style lends itself to this technique.

  6. I am so excited to try this for the first time. I live on the southwestern part of Wisconsin that is separated from the Minnesota border by the Mississippi River. I have been so blessed to have been introduced to one of his books. It was not only inspiring, but it gave me hope that I cherish for the future. Thank you for this opportunity. God bless all of you.

  7. I have never celebrated Lent. I will be learning. There are 2 other friends that will be doing this with me. I look forward to a closer walk with Jesus and my friends.
    I live in Houston Texas

  8. Claire, I too ordered from Amazon and have had issues getting Heart Speaks to Heart,
Read as much as possible using “Look Inside” on Amazon. Eagerly awaiting the real book. Think it is going to be a treasured find! Good luck with yours.

  9. I am so looking forward to this journey. I ordered both books Feb. 10th and received “Making All Things New” right away but the second book is back ordered. I’m hoping to receive it next week. I hope I will be able to participate fully using only the one book initially.

  10. Thank you for the invitation to join the Lenten book discussion. I have just purchased the two books recommended for my kindle iPad and am so looking forward to being part of the discussions as we enter this holy season of newness. Kathleen

  11. Hi Judy,
I downloaded the Kindle app for iPad, then from the Amazon.com website purchased Heart Speaks to Heart using the one-click purchase option; the book immediately appeared in the Kindle app library on my device. The other title wasn’t available to purchase in this way. Hope this helps!

    1. Hi Cristina,
When Brynn, our facilitator welcomes everyone on March 5th, she will explain the format. In the past she has posted questions each Sunday throughout the duration of the discussion so if that is the case again, you would return to the blog on Sunday to read her post. Of course, you can return to the blog as often as you wish to read comments and post your own.

      Blessings,
      Maureen

  12. Can the books be bought at the app store for ipad? I have hard copy but that would be convenient. You mentioned kindle and that is different I believe.

    1. Hi Rose, I purchased the kindle edition of Heart Speaks to Heart from Amazon on my iPad using the Kindle app for iPad. However Making All Things New was not available to purchase at that time.

    2. Hello Rose,
I just purchased both of the books tonight from Barnes & Noble for my Nook.
I feel certain you should be able to purchase both of the books for your IPad.

  13. I throughly enjoyed the Dec. Advent discussion and I know I will miss half half of lenten series. My husband and I will be in UK taking care of our grandchildren. We do not get any time to self. May be able to read the comments, but will enjoy the books as I have not read them before. God bless you for doing this. Blessings, Lata
